New Deputy Police Chief

June 12, 2023

The Perrysburg Police Division has a new Deputy Police Chief. Chris Sargent was sworn in on Monday, June 12 by Mayor Tom Mackin in a ceremony surrounded by his family and co-workers.

This is a promotion for Sargent, who has worked for the Perrysburg Police Division as a lieutenant since 2021. Previously, he was a sergeant at the Ottawa Hills Police Department where he worked for 17 years starting out as an intern and working his way up to 911 operator and police/fire dispatcher before becoming a police officer in 2005. He moved up the ranks to sergeant in 2012 where he supervised the afternoon and midnight shifts before being hired in Perrysburg as a lieutenant, and now deputy chief.

The Perrysburg Police Division eliminated the deputy chief position in 2018 and hired two lieutenants instead. Since then, the Division has grown, and Police Chief Patrick Jones saw the need to hire a deputy within. Sargent was among three internal candidates for the position.

“Chris has been an asset to our division,” said Chief Jones. “He is well respected and has the training needed for this particular job.”

Sargent is a graduate of Bedford High School in Michigan and holds a BS in Criminal Justice from the University of Toledo and a MA in Leadership/Public Service from Siena Heights University. He is also a graduate of Police Executive Leadership College (PELC) and Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE). He is currently working on completing his FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) Trilogy Series.

“I’m looking forward to working with the community in this new role and encourage residents to reach out with any concerns they may have,” said Sargent.
