Arbor Day Celebration

April 28, 2023

A Swamp White Oak tree was planted at Rotary Community Park in recognition of Arbor Day. The City of Perrysburg’s Street Tree Commission organized this year’s Arbor Day Celebration, which was held at the park on Friday, April 28.

The ceremony consisted of remarks from Scott Kirby, chair of Perrysburg’s Street Tree Commission, Councilman Mark Weber who read the proclamation for the City’s recognition as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the 39th year in a row, Judy Lang, president of the Country Garden Club of Perrysburg who described the tree that the club chose for this year's planting, and remarks from Dan Ledyard, the City’s urban forester, who recognized the winners of the Arbor Day banner contest.

Each year, students in the Perrysburg School District and St. Rose School create designs for Arbor Day. The winners were recognized at today’s ceremony and each of them got to shovel mulch onto the newly planted tree. The winning designs were made into banners that will be hung on the light posts in Historic Downtown Perrysburg where they will be on display for the next few weeks.
