The Great Race Makes a Pit Stop in Perrysburg

As teams from across the globe converge in Rhode Island with vintage automobiles, THE GREAT RACE prepares for its cross-country trip to North Dakota, with an overnight stop in Perrysburg, Ohio.

On Tuesday, June 21st, this time/speed/distance rally will make a pitstop in the Perrysburg Historic District, and to celebrate, Perrysburg is throwing a GREAT RACE PIT STOP PARTY to commemorate the visit – from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Each stop on the Great Race is free to the public, and spectators will be able to experience the vehicles up-close and personal. Once the Great Racers cross the Hemmings Motor News and Hagerty Drivers Club Grand Arch on Louisiana Avenue, the vehicle and driver receive a one-minute introduction to the crowd. One vehicle each minute for two hours straight. Great Racers will park their vehicles and are invited to enjoy a private VIP “Taste of Perrysburg” dining experience before visiting with guests throughout the six-block venue which also includes a 600+ car local CRUISE-IN, the WIENERMOBILE, a KIDS ZONE presented by Yark Chevrolet with free inflatables for ages 10 and under, face painting, and an interactive experience provided by event premier sponsor Mercy Health. With LIVE MUSIC by Johnny Rodriguez, circus-style street artistry, celebrity historians, family-friendly things to do inside the WAY PUBLIC LIBRARY, shopping, dining, a WINDOW DECORATING CONTEST with downtown merchants, an interactive display from WOOD COUNTY
SAFE COMMUNITIES and NASCAR Midwest Region, food trucks, and giveaways, there’s something for everyone.

“We are excited to bring this unique event to Perrysburg for the first time ever”, race director Jeff Stumb said. “It will be the first time THE GREAT RACE has been back to Northwest Ohio since an overnight stop in Findlay back in 2012.”

“There’s always something fun in historic Perrysburg, and THE GREAT RACE PIT STOP PARTY is no exception”, said Visit Perrysburg Executive Director Christine Best. “Our community welcomes the Great Racers to our historic district, working together to pull out all the stops and showcase our northwest Ohio hospitality!”

Visitors should expect traffic and parking adjustments to accommodate the 12,000 visitors expected on PIT STOP PARTY night. A FREE SHUTTLE will transport visitors to and from the Perrysburg Jr. High to the Commodore Building as well as nearby public lots at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, city public parking lots, and Frank Elementary. Special HANDICAP-ONLY parking is available in the nearby Perry’s Landing parking lot. See the detailed event map below.
