Letter to Historic District Property Owners

2/27/2023

The Historic Landmarks Commission and the City of Perrysburg Planning and Zoning Division have a message to all property owners within the City's Historic District:

Dear Historic District Property Owners,
The City of Perrysburg’s Historic Landmarks Commission and the Planning and Zoning Division would like to inform or remind you that you own real estate located within the Perrysburg Historic District. The Perrysburg Historic District exists by virtue of City Ordinance, Chapter 1245.45 of the Perrysburg Codified Ordinances. The Historic District is widely recognized as an effective regulatory framework to protect the City’s architectural heritage. The purpose of the Historic District is to protect and preserve the built environment that falls within the district’s designated boundaries.

If a property owner within the district intends to begin new construction, demolish a structure, or make any exterior alterations to any structures, other than “Ordinary Maintenance” as defined in Chapter 1245.47(k) of the Perrysburg Codified Ordinances, a Historic Landmarks Commission Application, including detailed plans, specifications and description of the materials to be used, must be submitted to the Planning and Zoning Division. Construction, demolition, or alterations may only commence upon the issuance of a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Landmarks Commission and after receiving permits from the Planning and Zoning Division, if required.

A link to the City of Perrysburg’s website is provided below, which describes the purpose of the Historic District and provides links to “Perrysburg Historic District Design Guidelines” and the “Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings” established by the U.S. Department of the Interior. The Historic Landmarks Commission consults the City’s Ordinances and both sets of guidelines in reviewing and acting on each application.

If you have questions or are in need of clarification regarding the Historic District’s requirements, please call or visit the Planning and Zoning Division Office at the Municipal Building. The Planning and Zoning Office is located at 201 W. Indiana Avenue, Perrysburg, OH. They can be reached by phone at 419-872-8060. The Planning and Zoning staff will be happy to assist you with any questions you may have.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in complying with the Historic District ordinances and relevant guidelines. We appreciate your help in maintaining Perrysburg’s Historic District as a special place to live, to work, and to be proud of.
