Discover the War of 1812 at one of America’s largest reconstructed log forts.  Fort Meigs marks the turning point for American forces in the western theatre during the War of 1812.  The battles fought here ultimately secured the Great Lakes Region in American control and finalized the geographic boundaries of the region.  Fort Meigs helped to prevent further British invasions into Ohio, which bought American forces the time they needed to build a U.S. Naval fleet on Lake Erie, resulting in the American victory during the Battle of Lake Erie, of which Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry was a key figure.

Visitors can explore blockhouses, artillery batteries, a quartermaster’s building and numerous traverses used by troops to defend the fort from British cannon fire.  Visitors can learn about Ohio’s role in the War of 1812 at this National Historic Landmark through soldiers' letters and diaries, uniforms and weapons located in the adjacent Museum and Visitors Center.
