Snow Plowing Policy
During regular work hours, the Perrysburg Police Division or the Department of Public Service determines when streets become unsafe and require attention. After regular work hours, the police dispatcher calls in snow plows when the conditions become unsafe.
The city is divided into six sections with a snow plow in each section. Priority is given to the main streets, intersections, school zones, streets with hills and curves. The main streets are cleared first. The secondary streets and subdivisions are given equal attention after the main streets and school zones are cleared.

--Carronade Drive
--Eckel Junction Road
--Front Street
--Indiana Avenue
--Jennison Drive
--Louisiana Avenue
--Maumee-Western Reserve
--Roachton Road
--Sandusky Street
--Three Meadows Boulevard
--Wilkinson Way
--Willowbend Road
These streets where schools are located:
--Fort Meigs Road
--Seventh Street
--White Road
During prolonged snowstorms, it is necessary for the snow plow operators to make repeated passes on the main street to keep traffic flowing.This delays the plows from clearing the neighborhood streets.
If at all possible, do not park on the street until it is cleared.
Plowing around parked cars slows down the snow trucks.
Salting Policy
City crews will apply salt to all streets.
Parking During Snowstorms
During snow events, residents are asked to use off street parking. By parking off the streets, this will enable the city snow plow crews to clear the streets more efficiently.
Plowing in Cul-de-sacs
It is illegal for the plows to drive against the regular traffic flow to clear snow in the cul-de-sac. Due to the scientific principle of centrifugal force, the snow plow cannot throw snow to the center of the cul-de-sac.
Plowing in Alleys
Alleys will be plowed as needed.
Guidelines When Clearing Sidewalks and Driveways
Snow plow crews first open the center of all the secondary streets and then return to push snow to the curb. Residents are encouraged to wait until the snow crews have completed their second round before removing snow from their driveways and sidewalks next to the street. Most of our complaints are from residents who have spent a lot of time clearing their driveways only to have the snow pushed back into the driveway when the snow plow crews make their second pass.
Residents are required by city ordinance 1022.28 to clear their sidewalks within thirty hours of its accumulation exclusive of Sundays and Federally mandated holidays. Snow, ice, dirt and other debris shall not be placed in the street, gutter or sidewalk. Please do not throw snow back in roadway...place it in your yard.
Once the crews have cleared the street, do not push or blow the snow from your driveway into the street. Passing motorists drive over the fresh snow and pack it down. When the temperature drops, that snow forms slippery patches resulting in a driving hazard.
Snow Plow Safety on the Road
The snow plow operator's vision is often reduced by blowing snow coming off the plow blade. Do not assume the snow plow operators can see you approaching. When following a snow plow, if you cannot see the side mirrors on the snow plow, the driver cannot see you.
Remember that snow plows must maintain a certain speed for the plows to be effective.
For your safety and the safety of the snow plow drivers, give them plenty of room to make wide turns, keep a safe distance behind the plows and do not pass the plows.
City crews can do a more efficient job when residents travel only when necessary and use off street parking when available.
Safety of Children
Caution your children not to play in the snow piles or drifts near the street and to always stay clear of the snow plow.
Safety of Refuse and Recycle Crews
On refuse and recycle collection day, place your trash and recycle bin at the corner of your drive, NOT on top of the snow piled along the edge of the street.
Mailboxes
Inspect, replace and/or repair your mailbox before the snow season. The city only repairs mailboxes that are hit by the snow plow. The city does not repair mailboxes that are damaged by snow thrown from the snow plow.
Snow Emergency Levels
Level 1:
Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow.
Roads are icy.
Caution should be used when driving.
Level 2:
Roadways are extremely hazardous with blowing and drifting snow.
Only those persons who felt it is necessary to drive, should be out on the roadways.
Your employer should be contacted to see if you should report to work.
Level 3:All roadways are closed to non-emergency traffic.
Employees should contact their employers to see if they should report to work.
An employer may request that all essential employees report to work.
All other travel is subject to arrest.
