At one time it was recommended to dispose of medications by flushing them down the toilet. This disposal method results in medication entering the water table. The EPA now recommends other proper disposal methods.
1. Mix unwanted medicine with used coffee grounds or kitty litter to discourage accidental ingestion by humans or animals. Place this mixture in a sealed container and place in regular refuse.
2. Take unwanted or outdated medication to a household hazardous waste (HHW) collection. The City of Perrysburg and Perrysburg Township hold a HHW collection, Recycle Roundup, in the spring of each year. Check the website for specific dates.
3. Take unwanted or outdated medication to the DEA Take Back Program scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2011. Check the DEA website for further details.
