Mosquito Control

 

During the summer months the City of Perrysburg perform City wide spraying. If you have a medical condition or concern regarding mosquito spraying please call 419-872-8020 to be placed on the call notification list.

The City's Responsibility to you...

  • During summer, the Department of Public Service crews weekly spray the entire city weekly for mosquito control.
  • Spraying occurs from 8:30 pm until midnight.
  • The spray is safe and will not cause harm to humans, pets, bees or plants.
  • The mosquito spray is a high volume mist that kills the adult mosquito only.
  • The mist is odorless, non-corrosive and biodegradable within 24 hours.
  • City crews also place mosquito control pellets in storm sewers and catch basins,, city creeks and ditches.
  • Mosquito dunks are available to residents with standing water problems. Residnets may get up to eight (8)mosquito dunks per year. These mosquito dunks may be picked up at the Department of Public Service, 11980 Roachton Road, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (excluding holidays) 

Your responsibility as a property owner...

  • Clear and maintain your property of potential mosquito breeding sites.
  • Cover trash containers to keep out rainwater.
  • Fill in or drain any low places on your property.
  • Get rid of old tires, tin cans, buckets, drums or any water holding containers.
  • Keep drains, ditches and culverts clean of weeds and trash so water will drain.
  • Keep eaves troughs and downspouts clean and clear draining.
  • Repair leaking pipes, outside faucets and window air conditioning units.
  • Empty wading pools weekly.
  • Empty accumulated water from boats and cargo trailers.
  • Keep your outdoor pool and hot tub clean and chlorinated.

How to protect yourself and family from mosquito bites...

  • Avoid outside activities between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
  • If you must be outside at these times, wear long sleeve shirts and long pants.
  • Use mosquito repellent that contains DEET and follow directions on the label.
  • Avoid DEET concentrations above 10-15% for children and 30-35% for adults, never use DEET on infants.
  • Once inside, wash off insect repellents thoroughly with soap and water.
