Log on at www.americarecyclesday.org to take the pledge to recycle.
Why recycle?
Recycling is a better use of your tax dollars because when you set out items for recycling, the city does not pay a disposal fee. All the trash you set to the curb goes to the landfill and the city pays a disposal fee. Why spend money for disposal when many of your unwanted items can be recycled? Recycling conserves resources and tax dollars. If you don't recycle, you are just throwing it all away.
What is the city recycling rate?
Currently, over 73% of the households in Perrysburg recycle curbside. Curbside recycling rates have increased from 53% in 2003 to the current rate.
How can I make a difference and help increase the amount of municipal solid waste (MSW) recycled in Perrysburg?
Simple, recycle more than you trash. Before you place something it in the trash, consider all the recycling options available locally. Check out the new up-to-date recycling link on the Recycling Resource A-Z pages.
What can just one person do to make a difference?
The Power of One can make a huge difference when combined with others. To make a difference in the city's recyling rate each resident can add one more pound each week to the recycling bin instead of tossing it in the trash. You can also add one new item to your weekly recycling efforts.
What can I recycle curbside?
These items are collected weekly in the city's curbside recycling program.
--all colored glass food containers
--all metal food and beverage containers
--plastic bottles and containers number 1 and 2 ONLY
These items need to be places in paper bags, not plastic, when recycling
--catalogs
--junk mail, if shredded, place in a sealed paper bag
--magazines
--newspapers
--telephone books
--wrapping paper (new for the 2011 holiday season)
How can I increase my curbside recycling?
To increase one pound per week is really quite simple. Consider adding or increasing these items when you recycle curbside. One pound equals any of the following examples:
--9 copies of The Blade
--12 magazines/catalogs
--14 copies of the Perrysburg Messenger Journal or Sentinel Tribune
--16 letters of junk mail
--20 metal food cans
--25 two liter bottles
--50 water bottles
--60 pop cans
--200 sheets of office paper
How can I recycle cardboard?
City residents can also boost their recycling efforts by utilizing the cardboard drop-off recycling at the Department of Public Service located at 11980 Roachton Road during regular business hours of Monday through Friday 7 am - 3:30 pm (excluding holidays).
NEW, a second cardboard recycling drop-off locatioin was opened on November 12, 2011 at the Water Division Complex located at 211 East Boundary. This cardboard drop-off is also available to Perrysburg Township residents and ALSO has hours on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 am - 12 noon. This expansion was funded by the Perrysburg Country Garden Club.
What other items can I recycle?
Consider recycling other items not collected curbside. While you are out in the community, consider these businesses that accept specific items for drop off recycling. If you cannot find a site to recycle an item that is not listed in thesebusiness locations or in the A-Z safe disposal and recycling guide, contact Judy Hagen at jhagen@ci.perrysburg.oh.us
