GETTING A JOB
A City application form must be filed for each position for which you are applying. A resume may be attached, but a City application is still required. Please complete all sections of the application rather than writing in "see resume". Some positions, such those with the Police or Fire Division will require taking a Civil Service test, positions that are entry level or for summer help will not.
You are welcome to download our application form or pick one up at the Human Resources office which is located in the Municipal Building at 201 West Indiana Avenue, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551.
Completed applications must be received by the City of Perrysburg Human Resources Office no later than 4:30 p.m. of the closing date indicated. Applications postmarked by the final filing date will also be accepted.
If, because of a disability, you would like to arrange for an accommodation in order to participate in the application process, please contact the Human Resources Office at 419-872-7870.
Types of Positions available with the City of Perrysburg
Non Civil Service Positions
Entry level positions such as General Laborers for the Street Division, are not subject to the Civil Service Process. We will advertise these positions in the Perrysburg Messenger Journal. Specific time frames will be outlined in the ad regarding opening and closing dates for taking applications for the position advertised. Applications will not be accepted outside of those timeframes.
Civil Service Positions
Any position that is not considered "entry level" will require applicants to take a written Civil Service test in order to be considered for a position. These positions would include those of Police Officer, Firefighter/Paramedic, Dispatcher, Equipment Operators and Maintenance workers.
Summer Help
We hire quite a few seasonal workers to fill various jobs in the City for the summer. Please note the application deadline information below.
The Summer Recreation Program
We have a wonderful Summer Recreation Program filled with various summer activities for children. Jim McMorgan is our Program Director. Helpers are needed to work with children in various areas such as sports camps, crafts, and other fun activities. Please see the application deadline section below.
General Laborers
We also need help cutting grass at the City parks and helping with other various general labor duties such as painting, street repair and building maintenance for our Street, Water and Water Pollution Control Divisions.
Litter Crew
Our Litter Control bureau is often in need of seasonal help to pick up litter and to assist with maintaining landscaping areas around the City.
Application Deadlines: All Summer Help Applications must be recieved by the end of February for the upcoming season. We start taking applications as early as Thanksgiving the prior year.
Residency
Nearly all of our permanent full time positions have residency requirements. The areas vary depending on the union that is represented, or for non union positions, it depends on which division you are applying to work for. This means that if you are hired and you don't already live in the specified area designated by the union, you would be required to move to the area with in a specific amount of time. This is not negotiable, so please check out the residency map that will be posted on the bulletin board outside the Human Resources office that outlines what areas are acceptable for that particular job and discuss this issue with your family.
For seasonal help, there is no residency requirement.

The Perrysburg Messenger Journal
The City of Perrysburg will usually advertise in the help wanted or legal notices section of the Journal, if we are actively recruiting for a position. We also advertise in the Toledo Blade from time to time.
The City Website
The Job Openings page provides a list of jobs for which the City is actively recruiting.
The Civil Service Process
When we have an open competitive test for a position, we will advertise in the Help Wanted section of the Perrysburg Messenger Journal and The Toledo Blade. There will be specific instructions and requirements posted in the ad.
You will be required to file an application during a specific time frame outlined in the advertisement. Applications will only be taken for those positions during the specified time.
Once the applications are filed and it is confirmed you meet the basic requirements for that particular position, you will have to pass a written test that covers various aspects of the job you are applying for. Passing score is 70% or above.
Some of the positions will require other testing in order to continue in the selection process. For example Police and Firefighter/Paramedic candidates will be required to pass a physical ability test and Dispatchers will be required to pass a typing test.
For applicable positions thorough background checks are done prior to scheduling interviews. Once those steps are completed and we have an opening, we will schedule interviews for the top six candidates. The selection will then be made from those candidates. Once an offer is made it will be contingent on the successful completion of a drug test and physical exam.
The ranked list of candidates remains in place for one year and any subsequent positions that become available will be filled from that same eligibility list. After one year from the original certification of the list, the list expires and a new test will be given.
We typically give the tests for Police, Firefighter/Paramedic and Dispatchers every year. All other tests for other openings are given on an as needed basis.
