THE CITY OF PERRYSBURG IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

Part-Paid Members
Part-paid members of the Fire Division are what many know as “volunteer” firefighters.  However, our part-paid members are paid per call and receive a small stipend for fire calls, training and various Fire Division activities.  They are issued pagers and respond from home, unlike the on duty personnel that respond from the Fire Station.

We always accept applications for part-paid personnel. Applications can be obtained from the Fire Station, Human Resource Office or from the website. They should be returned the Deputy Fire Chief either in person (Monday-Friday 7am to 3pm) or by mail.

When the need to part-paid firefighters exists, applicants will be contacted.  The progresses as follows:

  • Interview
  • Physical Ability Test
  • Background
  • Physical Exam
  • Appointment

Within one year of appointment the applicant will be required by state law to complete the 36 Volunteer Firefighter Training as well as Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations and National Incident Management System (NIMS) requirements.

Once appointed to the Fire Division, personnel are required to maintain state mandated training requirements.  This training is provided by the Fire Division at our regular Tuesday night drill night. Outside training opportunities are also provided as needed.
