Nelson Evans, Mayor
Nelson Evans was elected to a 4-year term as Mayor of the City of Perrysburg effective January 1, 2006. Prior to being elected mayor, Mr. Evans served as the City’s Police Chief until September 2003, capping a 25-year law enforcement career with the City, which included assignments to D.A.R.E. and Safety Town. He also instituted the Bike Patrol, R.A.D. program, Motorcycle Patrol, and Citizens Police Academy while serving as Chief. “My passion has always been serving the public,” says the Mayor. “Perrysburg has been such a great community for my family and me, and I felt I needed to give something back to future generations.” The Mayor is a third generation Perrysburg resident and is married and has two grown children.
Mayor Evans is a graduate of Perrysburg High School and the University of Cincinnati where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and served as President of his fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta. He is also a 1998 graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy.
During his campaign, Mayor Evans ran on the platform, History with Progress, Service with Growth, and Communication with Action. “We have undertaken several initiatives to make these things happen,” says Mayor Evans. Among them are a new and improved website, City hot line, renovated state of the art council chambers, plans for new fire and street division buildings, five year planning document, and a downtown improvement grants program.
“Perrysburg has been a well kept secret for many years, and now the secret is out,” says Mayor Evans. “My goal is to keep the community’s small town feel while we manage the City’s growth into the 21st century.”
